Exploring the Contemporary Figure
About eight years ago, vague and mysterious figures began to appear in a few of my abstracts. Early on they were merely happy accidents appearing within the expressive marks of a complex abstract painting.
In recent years, I've developed a thoughtful series of figurative paintings, intentionally grouping abstract figures to imply masses of urban pedestrians or travelers going beyond ordinary experience.
Viewers and collectors have reminisced of trips abroad, youthful bohemianism, or memories of their homeland. My quest is to portray a sort of transcendent character, in a setting that could be anywhere in the world!
